Report: Reece James injury is not serious

Reece James has reportedly not done any serious damage to his ankle, despite limping off against Newcastle on Saturday. Talksport is claiming that the 20-year-old has just suffered some minor bruising as a result of a challenge from Ciaran Clark.

It went from bad to worse for Chelsea on Sunday. James went off injured, and just 15 minutes later, the Blues conceded what was a crushing blow. They left St James’ Park with nothing. Only fears that the rising star was set for another spell on the sidelines.

The young right-back underwent surgery on the same ankle in the summer and when he went down, fans would have been fearing the worst. However, it seems that the injury is not serious and there is a possibility that he could be back for Tuesday’s clash with Arsenal.

Lampard may choose to shuffle the pack slightly for the visit of the Gunners. Fixtures are piling up again and the Blues are entering a tricky run of fixtures. The squad will need to be carefully managed to avoid injuries whilst ensuring some good results.

James has become one of Chelsea’s most important players in recent weeks. He has nailed down the starting right-back spot and is making a big impact every time he steps onto the pitch. His crossing ability and link-up play with Callum Hudson-Odoi has been a joy to behold in recent games.

The young full-back is also proving to be excellent defensively and is making a strong case to be included in Gareth Southgate’s next senior England squad. If he had been ruled out for a while, the Blues would have been in real trouble.
