Several Chelsea players are confused by the exclusion of Tammy Abraham from the squad for the 5-2 defeat to West Brom on Saturday, according to The Telegraph.
As it stands, the 23-year-old is leading the Blues’ goalscoring charts in both Premier League (six goals) and all competitions (12).
However, let alone being a regular starter, Abraham has struggled for minutes under Thomas Tuchel.
His ankle injury certainly played a part, but the England international only had two starts in the Premier League, against Southampton and Burnley, and was hooked at half-time on both occasions.
He was deemed fit as he returned to training last week but surprisingly did not make the squad on Saturday.
“It’s nothing personal,” said Tuchel after the game, confirming that it was a tactical decision.
According to The Telegraph’s report, however, Abraham, as well as several of his teammates, was left confused by the decision.
Some Chelsea fans on social media also have different views about Tuchel’s decision, and Abraham might have read some of their reactions.
A Chelsea fan account on Twitter has given fellow Chelsea fans a reminder about the Chelsea academy graduate’s incredible goalscoring record.
Interestingly, Abraham responded to the tweet.
The 14-game unbeaten run prior to Saturday’s defeat suggests that Tuchel knows what he is doing.
But it is frustrating at times when the team needs an out-and-out striker on the pitch, and the club top scorer is not even on the bench.
Also, the presence of a natural striker such as Abraham or Olivier Giroud could benefit the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
