Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel reportedly plans to build a team with the strike partnership between Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz at the centre of it all.
Even among some of the fans, there is always an argument about who should lead the line for Chelsea.
Is it Havertz who led Chelsea to their second Champions League glory or Lukaku who is a proven goalscorer almost throughout his career?
According to the Evening Standard’s report, Tuchel wants both of them in a strike pairing.
The report claims that the Chelsea manager wants to build his team around the club’s two record signings, particularly after seeing what they offered in the Club World Cup final.
Tuchel is also reportedly finally looking for consistency in his selection in attack — and developing the relationship between Lukaku and Havertz can help achieve that.
Yet the question remains. How would Tuchel shape his team to get the best out of the pair?
The 3-4-3 formation has worked wonderfully in the last year and helped the club win three trophies so far, including the UEFA Champions League and Super Cup.
However, the system arguably helps the defensive Chelsea players more than their attackers.
Many Chelsea attackers, including Havertz, struggle to consistently produce in front of goals, as Tuchel himself pointed out recently.
Neither Lukaku nor Havertz seems comfortable enough with playing as a lone striker and the structure often leaves their number nine isolated up front.
A formation change could be an answer, especially after Tuchel has a transfer window and potential new signings to work with in the summer.
If Tuchel can somehow make it all work, it is safe to say that with Lukaku and Havertz, at least on paper, Chelsea could have one of the best attacks in Europe.
