Report: Why Tuchel had concerns about joining Chelsea and how Petr Cech helped convince him to take the job

Thomas Tuchel ended up taking the Chelsea manager’s job a year ago today after reportedly holding positive talks with Petr Cech.

Tuchel, 48, celebrates one year as Blues manager today. The German boss has already won the Champions League and Super Cup with his side, as well as reach next month’s Carabao Cup final.

However, a report explains he had doubts about taking charge at Stamford Bridge.

According to ESPN, Tuchel was worried about succeeding club legend Frank Lampard in the hot seat.

However, the report shares that a conversation with Chelsea’s technical and performance adviser Cech played a “significant factor” in easing those fears.

Tuchel showing Chelsea his flexibly

The cornerstone of Tuchel’s success at Chelseas has been by using three centre-backs and wing-backs.

He’s preferred to play with either a 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3 system with the London club, something which is getting the very best out of several Blues defenders.

It’s been exciting to see some different ideas on the pitch recently, though.

He’s tried out various formations that include a back four, which is an obvious why to try get an extra attacker on the pitch. Chelsea fans have seen the likes of 4-2-2-2, 4-1-4-1 and 4-3-3 during the past couple of months.

Tuchel’s a master tactician that will constantly be looking to improve the performances of players, and that’s why it’ll be great to see if he can build a squad in his image during the next few transfer windows.
