Romano says Tuchel ‘loves’ highly rated left-footer who is wanted by Chelsea
Fabrizio Romano provided a welcome update in Chelsea’s pursuit of David Alaba by saying Thomas Tuchel was a big fan of the Bayern Munich man.
He delivered his verdict on the Frank Khalid UK YouTube channel after being asked what he thought Chelsea’s transfer activities would look like under Tuchel.
“I think they’ll go for a centre-back. That is the plan for the club. So, the mentality is to go for a top centre-back next summer”, Romano claimed.
“I think he will go for players from the Bundesliga again like they did for (Timo) Werner and (Kai) Havertz, just because he (Tuchel) knows the league so well.
“I see a lot of rumours about (David) Alaba who Tuchel loves. But he wants to join Real Madrid so it won’t be easy to go this kind of player.”
Alaba’s contract at Bayern ends this June and clubs have already begun to circle in an attempt to secure the 28-year-old’s services.
The Daily Mail reported that Chelsea were considering a move for the prestigious left-footed defender but would have to ward off the attentions of Europe’s heavyweights.
Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester United were all in the mix to sign the sort after Austrian, according to Sky Sports.
Chelsea have already been handed an advantage in the Alaba chase after Kaveh Solhekol explained on the Transfer Show that ‘some of the agents involved in bringing Tuchel to Stamford Bridge are also involved with Alaba’.
Tuchel does of course have major connections to the German top division. He managed at Augsburg II, Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund across a ten-year period before taking charge of Paris St Germain.
One of the major reasons he was appointed as Chelsea coach was to get the best out of Werner and Havertz who have struggled since their expensive transfers from across the continent.
Chelsea will he hope he has the same sort of lure if they swoop in for Alaba.

I think it would be a no brainer for Chelsea not to make an attempt for Alaba.
If sharing the same agent pool wasn’t enough of a signal, I don’t know what is. Snatch up him before he rots away at Madrid, or worse, goes to Liverpool.
