Ruben Loftus-Cheek has offered tremendous praise of his Chelsea teammate Jorginho.
Jorginho is coming to the end of his first season at Stamford Bridge and still has a Europa League final against Arsenal ahead of him, plus the final day of the Premier League season away to Leicester City.
The 27-year-old arrived last summer as a marquee signing for manager Maurizio Sarri, who he worked under at Napoli.
He’s a deep-lying midfielder that plays at the base of a midfield trio, with N’Golo Kante and Loftus-Cheek filling in box-to-box roles alongside him frequently this term.
Jorginho is a pass master that has so much possession and most of the Blues play will go through him.
The Italy international has divided fans at times this campaign with some feeling Kante is the better option in a defensive midfield role, but he’s played 52 appearances across all competitions this season and is Sarri’s main man.
Loftus-Cheek feels that Jorginho is perhaps underrated in West London and has raved about his first season in English football.
“I think most fans don’t see how good Jorginho is,” Loftus-Cheek told ESPN.
“Because he’s not eye-catching, he does the simple thing but it’s so effective for us as a team. He helps bring play together and everything goes through him. When we play well Jorginho plays well.
“I think he’s a massive player for our team. As a midfielder, if he’s getting on the ball a lot that gives me opportunities to get the ball. He sucks players in and that creates space for me.”
Jorginho is definitely beginning to come into his own during the last few months and is slowly winning the fanbase over.
He’s starting to find some extra steel defensively to his game and that’s essential when dealing with some of the teams in England.
Moving into next season, a midfield trio of Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho and Kante can cause real damage if they continue to improve together.
