Saul Niguez was asked to name his ultimate XI of players he’s featured alongside across the years and Chelsea earned a mention.
Speaking to Fabrizio Romano last night, Saul was set the traditional task of compiling a side from the long list of iconic names he’s been lucky enough to call colleagues.
Understandably, a majority of his XI consisted of Atletico Madrid players, considering the midfielder gave more than a decade of service in the Spanish capital before joining Chelsea last month.
Of the Madrid contingent, Jan Oblak, Diego Godin, Filipe Luis, Koke and Fernando Torres earned the call-up.
Oblak and Koke would feel hard done by had they been excluded, considering they have played more games with Saul than anyone in history.
There was also some cross-over with the Spanish national set-up.
Sergio Ramos, Sergio Busquets, Andreas Iniesta, David Villa and David Silva had compatriot status in their corner.
Just one member of Saul’s new dressing room made the cut.
Despite only being a Blue for a few weeks, Saul has already enjoyed the pleasure of sharing a pitch with some of the game’s greats.
Romelu Lukaku, N’Golo Kante, Thiago Silva, Jorginho, Kai Havertz – the list is seemingly endless.
Yet, it was Cesar Azpilicueta who was the chosen Chelsea one.
That’s largely thanks to the pair linking up while on national duty, although they have only partnered five times for Spain.
But Azpilicueta isn’t the only blue theme in Saul’s team.
Torres infamously donned the dark shades of south west London in 2011.
Luis less infamously spent the 14/15 season at Stamford Bridge.
