Reports in The Telegraph have suggested that Arsenal may struggle to keep hold of star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang past the end of the season. With Chelsea in need of some reinforcements upfront, should they look at making a move for the 30-year-old striker?
This would be a move that could cause serious upset amongst Arsenal fans. Aubameyang is the current captain of the club and it is bad enough that he might move on at the end of the season. It would be even worse if he were to make a move to their bitter London rivals.
Chelsea have been linked with several attacking options ahead of the January transfer window. The club could do with some more reliable back-up to Tammy Abraham, and Aubameyang would certainly provide that. He is the second top Premier League goalscorer of the campaign so far and is desperate to play Champions League football once again.
The Blues are in the last-16 of the competition and looking good for a top-four finish again this season. The Gabon international would also not have to relocate if he made the move across London. Whether Aubameyang would do this to his current club is up for debate, but others have done it in the past.
David Luiz, William Gallas, and Ashley Cole have all made similar moves between the two clubs. With his contract running out, there is also the possibility of getting him for a relatively low price.
Arsenal will not want to lose their star-man to Chelsea, and it could be a tricky move to pull off. However, it is worth an inquiry from the Blues. Aubameyang and Abraham would give the club two extremely strong attacking options.
