2019 has seen several Chelsea players improve significantly. The likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount have made their way into the first-team, while Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho have turned around the opinions of many Blues fans.
However, some players still need to show improvements. Here are three Chelsea players who must improve in 2020.
Hudson-Odoi has not yet hit the heights some fans were hoping for this season. Since returning from a lengthy lay-off, the 19-year-old has struggled for first-team opportunities.
Pulisic has been preferred ahead of him on the left-wing, and when given the chance, CHO has disappointed. He will need to improve if he is to break back into the Chelsea team and make an impact in the second half of the season.
After an impressive pre-season, Barkley has been severely disappointing this season. Poor form coupled with some injury problems has left him on the fringes at the club.
It is especially frustrating for Chelsea fans because they see the performances of Barkley in an England shirt. He looks like a different player when on the international stage.
If he is to have a future at the club, the 26-year-old will need to perform far better in 2020, and restore the faith of his manager Frank Lampard.
The young Spanish goalkeeper is Chelsea’s current undisputed number one. However, recent mistakes have led to speculation on whether Lampard will be looking to bring in a new goalkeeper to challenge Kepa.
Although his ability is clear to see, the25-year-old has made some bizarre decisions in recent months and cost Chelsea points. His insistence on playing it out from the back has caused the team some trouble, and he is part of the reason the Blues have conceded so many goals this season.
Kepa will need to improve in 2020 to secure his spot as Chelsea’s number one and remove any potential doubts about his ability to play at the top level.
