Olivier Giroud’s time at Chelsea is all-but done, with the player confirming his exit before an official club announcement.
The 34-year-old French forward has posted on Twitter a farewell message to the entire Blues fanbase ahead of his imminent departure from Stamford Bridge.
Sky Sports reports he’s joining AC Milan on a two-year deal. He’s already been pictured in Italy sealing his move.
He will leave Chelsea a real favourite after winning the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup in a blue shirt.
Here is a look at five top moments of Giroud at Chelsea:
Overhead kick in Madrid – 23 February 2021
Giroud, like so many times in his career, added yet another wonder goal to his collection last season en route to Chelsea winning the Champions League.
He scored a remarkable bicycle kick away to Atletico Madrid.
On top of it being a stunner, it was a goal that gave Chelsea a crucial 1-0 away win in the Champions League last 16 tie.
Many people believe it was the goal that set the belief they could win the competition.
Kyiv mauling – 14 March, 2019
Giroud was on fire in Europe during the 2018/19 campaign, which included a clinical performance in Kyiv.
The Chelsea attacker scored a hat-trick inside the opening hour as the Blues won 5-0 (8-0 on aggregate) away to Ukranian side Dynamo Kyiv.
It’s worth pointing out he always seems to take his game up another level when competing on the European stage.
Wembley worldie – 22 April, 2018
Giroud turned up once again on the big occasion for Chelsea by scoring in their 2-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Southampton.
His goal was sensational for the sheer individual ability, as he gathered the ball in the box and sent several defenders falling to the ground with his breathtaking close control.
He’s much more than just a target man. He is brilliant with the ball at his feet, too.
Four-goal masterclass – 2 December, 2020
Giroud was in and out of the team last season, but one performance will go down in Chelsea’s European folklore.
The left-footer scored FOUR goals away to Sevilla in a 4-0 victory in the Champions League group stages. He was simply unstoppable in Spain.
The striker’s first was on his favoured left foot, before a delicate chipped on his weaker right. He added to that with a header and a converted penalty.
Baku magic – 29 May, 2019
Giroud, along with Eden Hazard, helped rip Arsenal apart in the Europa League final a couple of seasons ago.
Chelsea beat Arsenal 4-1 in Baku to win a European trophy under former boss Maurizio Sarri.
Giroud finished that 2018/19 campaign as the top goalscorer in the Europa League, netting 11 goals in 14 games.
He scored a trademark header to break the deadlock, as well as performing a one-two to help assist Hazard for one of his goals.
It must have been even sweeter for Giroud it was against his former club.
