Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said he sees similarities between Olivier Giroud and Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani ahead of Sunday’s clash.
Aside from Bruno Ferndandes and Marcus Rashford, no other Manchester United players has more Premier League goals than Cavani this season (six).
What makes it impressive is that the Uruguay international has just eight league starts this season.
Tuchel, who worked at Cavani at Paris Saint-Germain, is clearly familiar with the striker — and the threats he could pose on Sunday.
But the Chelsea boss insisted that he also has a similar player at Chelsea in Giroud.
“Edi [Cavani], as a player, is like Oli [Giroud] — a No.9 who is always concerned about the team, always ready to suffer for the team, to sacrifice, run, and defend for the team,” Tuchel said in his press conference on Friday.
“This is the characteristic of them both.
“In the box, they are both excellent finishers, they have the experience, they don’t get nervous and have the composure.
“Top quality No.9s, and for me their fitness and self discipline is the key to their success.”
Cavani might feature against Chelsea
Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer previously said that he is hopeful that Cavani, Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay will be fit for the Stamford Bridge trip (via United in Focus).
Solskjaer also ruled former Chelsea player of the year Juan Mata out of the game (Man United’s official website).
While Tuchel confirmed that Chelsea will be without Thiago Silva who picked a muscle injury in Tottenham win earlier this month.
