Tuchel confirms Chelsea duo's likely return for Arsenal trip but rules one player out
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel delivered positive injury updates on two players but confirmed Christian Pulisic is out of Sunday’s derby against Arsenal.
Hakim Ziyech and N’Golo Kante who missed out on the season opener win over Crystal Palace due to a shoulder and an ankle injury, respectively, returned to training on Thursday.
Both also took part in Friday’s training session, Tuchel confirmed, although the manager plans to wait until Saturday before making any team decision.
Pulisic’s absences from recent training sessions, on the other hand, were not due to an injury.
“Unfortunately, he had a positive Covid-19 test and needed to follow the protocol,” the Chelsea manager said during his press conference about Pulisic.
“So he was not in training and [is] not available for the game.
“Hakim and N’Golo were both in training today and had absolutely no problem.
“We will decide after tomorrow’s training session, but right now, it’s very positive that both can be in the squad for Sunday.”
Thanks to Ziyech’s likely being available and Romelu Lukaku’s arrival, Tuchel will have plenty of other attacking options for the trip to the Emirates Stadium.
Unlike in the last game, in which Tuchel had to take tiredness after the Super Cup into account when making team selection, he does not have to worry about lack of fitness.
