Tuchel provides injury updates on two key Chelsea players after Leicester City win

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has provided an update on N’Golo Kante’s fitness after the midfielder was forced off the pitch during the win over Leicester City.

The Blues managed to secure the win despite the 30-year-old’s absence in the last hour of the game.

However, it is pretty clear that Chelsea are going to need Kante and his energy in midfield for the next two important games; the final Premier League match and the Champions League final.

As expected, we still have to wait for further examinations for the details, but Tuchel said the early look suggests it is only a minor issue.

“I hope that N’Golo is not injured,” the Chelsea manager said in his post-match press conference on Tuesday.

“He told me that he went out before he was injured. He felt his hamstring and was worried that he might get injured if had continued to play.

“So we put [Mateo] Kova in, which was also a huge risk. But it was the moment to take risks. And I’m happy that it worked out.”

Earlier, Tuchel also confirmed that Kai Havertz also suffered a hamstring injury during last Saturday’s FA Cup final and therefore had to miss out on the match.

Fortunately, Tuchel also added that the Germany international might return for Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa (via Football Daily).

Both Havertz and Kante will have five days, plenty of time, to recover before another decisive league match.

Although, considering the risks ahead of the Champions League final, resting these two could be a wise decision as well.
