Chelsea beat Bournemouth 2-1 on Tuesday night in a pre-season fixture – and some Blues fans on Twitter were left excited by the performance of Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Thomas Tuchel’s squad stepped up their fitness with some valuable minutes against a decent Championship opposition.
The German manager used a total of 21 players throughout the 90 minutes, as plenty of familiar faces returned after loan spells. It’s worth pointing out there is still a strong contingent of internationals to start playing again.
Emiliano Marcondes put Bournemouth ahead in the second half. However, proof of Chelsea’s quality academy was once again on show with the response.
Blues strikers Armando Broja and Ike Ugbo, 19 and 22 respectively, both got on the scoresheet to secure a victory.
There are now two intriguing pre-season matches against London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea to look forward to in the next week.
Hudson-Odoi has Chelsea fans talking
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media believe Hudson-Odoi was one of the big standouts tonight. The 20-year-old played just over an hour as a right wing-back.
He’s just two games short of 100 senior appearances for Chelsea, plus he was a star previously in the academy. The majority of that has been as a dazzling winger.
However, tonight was not the first time Tuchel has used him as a wing-back.
The English speedster was a constant threat against Bournemouth when squaring opponents up one-on-one. Also, he was robbed of an assist when his perfect cross wasn’t converted by teammate Tammy Abraham.
