Wesley Fofana reacts to Tuchel's Chelsea sacking on social media

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has shared a photo of himself and Thomas Tuchel on social media after the club announced its decision to sack the manager.

The Blues sacked Thomas Tuchel on Wednesday after the new club owners felt that it was “the right time to make this transition“.

However, many were shocked by the decision, particularly considering how big a role the German played in Chelsea’s record-breaking summer spending spree.

A large chunk of it was spent on Fofana who joined on a seven-year deal for a fee in the region of £70million (per BBC).

Tuchel certainly played a big part in identifying Fofana as a top target earlier this summer.

“Wesley is the profile we identified very, very early in the summer as a replacement for Toni [Rudiger] and Andreas [Christensen],” Tuchel said about Fofana’s arrival earlier this month (via Metro).

“We stayed patient, and we’re super happy that Todd [Boehly] was relentless on it and never gave up. We’re delighted we managed to fulfil this transfer.”

Fofana had only managed to play two games under the former Paris Saint-Germain boss, however, before the surprising announcement.

The French defender is the first Chelsea player to show his support for Tuchel on social media.

Ironically, part of the reasons Chelsea owners decided to axe Tuchel was because they were reportedly convinced that the next manager would do a better job in getting more out of new signings, including Fofana, than Tuchel.
