Thomas Tuchel is about to embark on his first pre-season training camp with Chelsea but not all of his soldiers will be there from day one.
Several members of his squad were afforded no rest-bite following a grueling season as they were called up to international duty.
17 players in fact were selected to represent their country at the European Championships.
Seven are still competing in the competition, whilst the others are entitled to a three-week break before the 2021/22 campaign kicks off.
Here’s a rundown of those who won’t be available for Tuchel’s opening session:
Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell & Reece James (England) + Andreas Christensen (Denmark)
Thanks to England’s epic journey through Euro 2020, Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell, and Reece James won’t be free for well over a fortnight.
The Three Lions face Andreas Christensen’s Denmark in the second semi-final clash on Wednesday evening, with the Chelsea quartet hopeful to be involved.
Emerson Palmieri & Jorginho (Italy) + Cesar Azpilicueta (Spain)
The other final four clash is Italy versus Spain, which is set to pit three Blues stars against one another.
Emerson Palmieri and Jorginho should start for the Italians, whilst Cesar Azpilicueta has earned his spot within the Spanish side.
Kai Havertz, Antonio Rudiger & Timo Werner (Germany)
England’s delight was Germany’s despair at Wembley last Tuesday.
Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, and Antonio Rudiger felt the wrath of Gareth Southgate’s team and were eliminated in the round of 16.
Werner was recently spotted at the Austrian Grand Prix, where he was introduced as Chelsea’s goalkeeper…
Kurt Zouma, Olivier Giroud & N’Golo Kante (France)
Like the previous three, Kurt Zouma, Olivier Giroud, and N’Golo Kante were all removed in the first knockout stage.
France’s shock exit to Switzerland gave the rest of the continent optimism that anybody could win the tournament.
To be honest, Kante could probably go straight into a new season and still not be tired.
Mateo Kovacic (Croatia), Ethan Ampadu (Wales) & Michy Batshuayi (Belgium)
Mateo Kovacic, Ethan Ampadu, and Michy Batshuayi were all dumped from the latter levels of the Euros.
Croatia lost to Spain, Wales to Denmark, and Belgium to Italy.
Thiago Silva (Brazil)
Another man away with his national colleges is Thiago Silva.
The 36-year-old is preparing for a Copa America semi-final clash with Brazil against Peru tomorrow evening.
Billy Gilmour (Norwich City) & Victor Moses (Spartak Moscow)
Two names who certainly won’t be appearing on Tuchel’s register are Billy Gilmour and Victor Moses.
Gilmour completed his loan move to Norwich City last week, whereas Moses recently joined Spartak Moscow on a permanent deal.
Willy Caballero (Released)
Willy Caballero also won’t be returning to first-team duties next year, after the goalkeeper was part of Chelsea’s seven-man release list.
Jamal Blackman, Marco van Ginkel, Isiah Brown, and Danilo Pantic were also let go.
