Chelsea will find out in the coming days what the verdict is on the appeal against the second half of the transfer ban. If the verdict is positive, the club will be looking to get the ball rolling immediately on potential signings. Here is why Chelsea must consider signing Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian striker has burst onto the scene at RB Salzburg this season and attracted the attention of every top European club.
In 13 league games, Haaland has scored a ridiculous 15 goals and contributed six assists. He has also scored eight times in just five Champions League matches. This has included games against holders Liverpool and Italian giants Napoli.
This puts him second in the competition’s top-scoring charts. Add in the fact that he has only started in three of these matches, and the statistic is even more impressive.
At 6″4, Haaland possesses great aerial ability and strength. Also, unlike many strikers of that height, he is quick off the mark and makes exceptional runs off the back of the opposition defense.
Some may dismiss the possibility of signing Haaland because of the form of young striker Tammy Abraham. However, by going after the big Norwegian, Lampard would be adding competition for the 22-year-old. This could get the best out of both of them.
It would also give the Blues boss the option to play a formation operating with two strikers. This has become a less popular choice in the modern game but could be brought back in if the two youngsters worked well together.
The Evening Standard has previously reported that Haaland could cost clubs as much as £85m. That could prove to be well worth it if the 19-year-old replicated his current form in the Premier League.
