Why Chelsea should not target Benoit Badiashile
Benoit Badiashile has impressed this season for Monaco in Ligue 1 after breaking into the first team and is earning rave reviews. He has previously been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but would it be a sensible signing for Chelsea?
There is no doubt that Badiashile has talent. He has broken into a mid-table Ligue 1 side at just 18-year-old and has already started 12 games this season. The young defender has also represented France up to under-19 level and is regarded as one of the top defensive prospects in Europe.
Chelsea should not target Badiashile because he does not offer the experience that the Chelsea backline is crying out for. Former player Joe Cole was critical of the Blues defense in the 3-1 defeat to Everton on Saturday.
The average age of Chelsea’s main four center-back options is under 24-years-old. The Blues should be targeting an established defender who can organize and sort out the backline. They have conceded 24 goals in just 16 league games, a statistic that needs sorting out.
Although Badiashile could prove to be a shrewd signing in years to come, he is unlikely to improve Chelsea’s defensive issues in the short-term. There are several players that the club could target instead that will have an instant impact on the problems at the back.
