Willian speaks about conversation with David Luiz before signing for Arsenal
Former Chelsea winger Willian has said David Luiz urged him to sign for Arsenal before he moved to North London and signed for Arsenal.
The Brazilian pair first met when they were eight years old in Brazil have had a history together both at Chelsea and the national team.
Now that Willian has joined Arsenal as a free agent after failing to meet an agreement with Chelsea over a new contract, the two are now reunited once again.
“He’s very happy,” Willian told Arsenal’s official website about Luiz’s reaction to his move to North London.
“We played together in the national team, we played together at Chelsea, and now at Arsenal again. I think we can do great things together, I hope so, but I’m very happy to be with him again.”
Today is the start of a new challenge at the next stage of my career!

Interestingly, the Brazil international also revealed the conversation he had with Luiz prior to the move.
“He said, ‘Come to Arsenal, come to Arsenal, I want you to come!’ So that was the conversation. He is a very nice guy, a top player and I’m very excited to play with him again,” Willian added.
“Of course [he helped in the past], many times. Many times when I had difficult times at Chelsea he was helping me a lot.
“He is this kind of person that wants to help, especially young players without experience.”
Willian spent seven years at Stamford Bridge before switching to Arsenal, while Luiz spent six years over two spells before leaving for the Gunners last summer.
