Chelsea midfielder Jorginho still admires former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri and has picked out the tactician’s best qualities.
The 28-year-old spent three seasons under Sarri at Napoli and was the Italian manager’s main man in the midfield.
Jorginho was so important to Sarri’s football that when Sarri joined Chelsea in 2018, so did Jorginho.
Sarri is a manager who sticks with his gameplan, and that was exactly what he did at Chelsea.
The 61-year-old scrapped the double pivot midfield Chelsea had utilised for almost a decade under previous managers including Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte and went for a lone holding midfielder using Jorginho at the base of the midfield three.
He repeatedly said he would not change his style, despite Chelsea’s poor form in the middle of last season.
And based on what Jorginho said, it was because Sarri had always had clear plans in his head.
Speaking in an Instagram Live, Jorginho said (as quoted by Tuttomercato): “Sarri? Great technician, he has an incredible preparation, he knows practically everything, he has an answer for everything you ask.
“With him you always know what to do on the field, on a tactical level it is amazing.”
Sarri took Chelsea to win the Europa League before deciding to leave for Juventus at the end of last season.
Chelsea also finished third in the Premier League and reached the League Cup final, although the Blues lost out to Manchester City in penalty-shootouts.
