Followers of Chelsea urged Thomas Tuchel to play Kai Havertz on the weekend after it was revealed he had returned to training.
Havertz hasn’t featured since the Blues 2-0 victory over Burnley at the end of January.
Photos emerged that both he and Thiago Silva were back with the squad prior to Saturday’s Premier League trip to Southampton.
Even though the 21-year-old is only freshly off the treatment table, Chelsea fans wanted Havertz to be thrown straight back into action against the Saints.
Chelsea really could do with Havertz having a strong end to what’s been a sub-standard first season in England.
A combination of injuries, contracting Covid and a dip in confidence have all contributed to his concerning fall in form.
He hasn’t scored or assisted a goal since Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on the 3rd of January.
In that period, Havertz has only started three games in all competitions.
Supporters and rivals alike are still waiting for the £72m (BBC Sport) signing to burst into life.
The expectation is that Tuchel can be the man to drag Havertz back to his Bundesliga heights.
Admittedly, the German coach and player have been afforded very little opportunities to work together.
Hopefully this can be the dawn of a new Havertz era.

I mostly agree with the Chelsea faithful.
I think Havertz should get some game time versus Southampton, just so he can dust off some cobwebs and build up a bit of belief in the young man.
A start may be too premature, but an appearance of the bench certainly wouldn’t hurt.
