A section of Chelsea supporters on social media insisted that Frank Lampard take the vacant England U21 manager’s position.
It was confirmed today that Aidy Boothroyd would step down from his post, following the Young Lions disappointing exit from last month’s European Championships.
Blues fans on Twitter thought that this would be an ideal opportunity for Lampard to step back into coaching.
Lampard has been out of work himself since he was sacked by Chelsea in January.
His feelings might be bitter sweet towards the current Blues set-up under Thomas Tuchel.
One of joy that the team is performing so well, but also a slight sense of resentment that he could’ve been him championing this good form.
Several of the young stars now shining under Tuchel- Mason Mount and Reece James in particular- were given a chance thanks to Lampard.
Names like Christian Pulisic, Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy, Kai Havertz, and Ben Chilwell are all flourishing under the German coach.
However, they might not have made it to Stamford Bridge had Lampard not been in charge.
The former Chelsea midfielder might be drawn to England’s managerial opening because of the talented pool of players available for selection.
Callum Hudson-Odoi, Marc Guehi and Conor Gallagher featured during the Euros, all with allegiances to the Blues.
Of course, Lampard might not want to rush back into employment straight away. However, the offer does seem very appealing.

I honestly couldn’t think of a better vocation for Lampard to step into.
They are young. They are English. They are gifted. Isn’t that everything he wants in a squad?
It doesn’t have the same pressures as Chelsea or even the senior England side.
