Reece James and Hakim Ziyech were clearly impressed by Edouard Mendy’s performance against Manchester United as they went to social media to praise the goalkeeper.
It was certainly not an end-to-end game of football many would’ve hoped for from such a big game.
But while Chelsea had a torrid time in the final third, the defensive line kept their second consecutive clean-sheet.
Mendy, in particular, had his best game in a Chelsea shirt at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper stopped all four of Man United’s shots on target, including a brilliant curler from Marcus Rashford in the last minutes of the game.
“A solid performance by the team, let’s keep moving forward,” Mendy wrote on Instagram after the game.
“Thanks to all the medical staff of Chelsea and Senegal who allowed me to come back faster and in the best conditions.”
In the comment section of the post, there are two interesting comments from his teammates James and Ziyech who called him “Beast” and “Panther”, respectively — referring to the athleticism shown by the goalkeeper when he made those saves.
A few other Chelsea players also had their say on Instagram.
Chilwell wrote: “We’ll take the clean sheet and keep working hard.”
While Thiago Silva who also had another impactful game said: “A tough game as we played against a great opponent, but the fighting spirit of our team Chelsea was really good!
“Now it’s time to rest and move forward, all together.”
Jorginho seemed satisfied with the defensive performance, saying: “Tough game tonight, we bring home a clean sheet. Head to the next one!”
