Predicted line-up against Liverpool: all change for Sarri?
Maurizio Sarri saw his 100% start as Chelsea manager come to an end on Sunday after drawing 0-0 with West Ham.
But he can’t take too long to mull over the result as Chelsea have two huge clashes with Liverpool coming up this week.
First, the Blues face Liverpool in the EFL Cup on Wednesday before the Merseyside club travel to Stamford Bridge for a Premier League clash.
And with a hectic schedule upcoming, Sarri will likely rotate for Wednesday’s game.
On the other hand, Liverpool are the only undefeated side left in the Premier League.
But with their own busy schedule on the horizon, Jurgen Klopp will likely rotate.
Sarri has started the same four defenders in every Premier League game, despite their obvious defensive frailties.
And with Antonio Rudiger limping off against West Ham, he may use this opportunity to rotate.
Marcos Alonso, Cesar Azpilicueta and David Luiz could all get a rest as a result.
Emerson Palmieri, Davide Zappacosta, Andreas Christensen and Gary Cahill may all get the opportunity to play at Anfield.
Sarri has clearly settled on his favoured midfield trio.
Jorginho has played every game so far and with their countries success at the World Cup, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic have played a lot of football recently.
So they may have to settle for a spot on the bench as some fringe players get an opportunity.
Cesc Fabregas recently returned from injury and could replace Jorginho, and Ross Barkley will take Kovacic’s place.
Unfortunately, a reported injury to Ruben Loftus-Cheek will keep him out for Wednesday’s game so Ethan Ampadu may get a chance to impress.
Opportunity for attackers?
Between the World Cup and the hectic start to the season, Oliver Giroud and Eden Hazard deserve some rest.
And after picking up a knock in Chelsea’s win over PAOK last Thursday, Pedro may start from the bench.
That means there could be opportunities for Alvaro Morata and Willian to start and they will be hoping to play well to convince Sarri to start them in the league.
Also, 17 year-old Callum Hudson-Odoi could start on the other wing after impressing Sarri in the pre-season.
