Chelsea reached the FA Cup final with a brilliant win over Manchester City on Saturday evening – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter picked out Antonio Rudiger for his impressive performance in defence.
The Blues beat Man City 1-0 at Wembley Stadium in the semi-final, which ended the latter’s bid for the quadruple this season.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel set his side out tactically perfectly, and they withstood some late pressure to deservedly win the cup tie.
Hakim Ziyech was the match-winner with his 55th minute goal. The left-footed attacker tapped in a simple finish after Timo Werner unselfishly passed the ball across goal.
It means there is an FA Cup final to look forward to against either Leicester City or Southampton, plus a Champions League semi-final showdown with Real Madrid.
Despite the disappointment of Frank Lampard’s mid-season exit, there can be no denying that Tuchel has had such a positive effect on a group of players now heading in the right direction.
A selection of Chelsea fans believe that Rudiger was a colossus at the back for them.
The 28-year-old left-sided centre-back was winning everything in the air, and the way he defends so aggressively highlights the gritty style under Tuchel.
Here are some Blues fans discussing Rudiger’s contribution:
