Predicted Chelsea XI vs Luton: Out of favour player returns, redemption for 20-year-old

Chelsea can attempt to put their Premier League perils behind them this weekend as they host Luton Town at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup.

Frank Lampard is in dire need of a result to ease some of the pressure that has mounted upon him following the latest league defeat to Leicester City.

Much like he did in the previous round at home to Morecambe, Lampard will likely select a strong side against their lower league opposition.

Giving minutes to any of the academy prodigies is probably out of the question as Chelsea desperately search for some good form from their senior players.

Still, a reshuffle will be expected, starting with Kepa Arrizabalaga’s reinstation between the posts. He earned his 100th Chelsea cap last time out and looks set to be the reining cup ‘keeper.

Reece James had a rotten return from his injury lay-off away to Leicester and will look to rid those wrongs at right back.

Kurt Zouma will come back in at the heart of Chelsea’s defence, having watched the somewhat unsuccessful partnership of Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger play together in the past two league games.

Zouma will be joined by the out of favour Andreas Christensen, who has recovered from a knee injury, to make only his eighth appearance of the campaign. Emerson to replace Ben Chilwell at left back.

Lampard’s midfield looked disjointed at Fulham and Leicester, so he may attempt to strike finer a balance by deploying Mason Mount, Billy Gilmour and Kai Havertz. With no N’Golo Kante, the onus turns on the young trio to outclass and outrun the Luton midfield.

In attack, Callum Hudson-Odoi might get the chance to redeem himself after failing to deliver when offered a rare start on Tuesday.

Timo Werner to be directed down the middle, with Hakim Ziyech to his right. Both new signings were brought on as substitutes mid-week so will be fresher than most going into Sunday.
