Some Chelsea fans amazed by 20-year-old's cup display for PL rivals

'Actually so good': Some Chelsea fans amazed by 20-year-old's FA Cup display, Blues released him as a youngster

Michael Olise helped inspire his Crystal Palace side to a comeback win in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon – and some Chelsea fans on Twitter were amazed by the youngster’s performance.

Premier League outfit Palace came from behind to beat Championship opponents Millwall 2-1 away from home.

First of all, Olise equalised in stunning fashion after cutting infield to his favoured left foot and bending his shot into the net.

The 20-year-old then provided a cracking assist soon after by lifting a cross from a similar position on to the head of teammate Jean-Philippe Mateta.

He was Palace’s danger man throughout whenever he received on the ball on the right wing, with the opposition unable to stop him getting it on his wand of a left.

The £8million trickster has shown glimpses of magic since his summer transfer to Selhurst Park from Reading, which looks like an absolute bargain. He’s now got three goals and four assists so far during his debut Palace campaign, but the best is yet to come as he attempts to work his way into his team’s best XI.

Chelsea fans applaud Olise magic

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media over the weekend couldn’t help but rave about Olise’s performance for their Premier League and London rivals Palace.

It was the kind of magical individual display in the FA Cup that should help carry momentum over into the league.

Some Blues fans on Twitter were marvelling over his talent, while others suggest they’d love him to play at Stamford Bridge.

Incidentally, Olise was once on Chelsea’s books as a youngster. He reportedly trained with the Blues before being released, plus he reportedly also spent time in Manchester City’s academy before ending up at Reading.

In addition, Chelsea were linked with then-Reading player Olise back in 2020, along with the likes of Man City, Liverpool and Everton.

Palace are the top-flight club trying to nurture the young talent and benefit from his potential, but Chelsea’s path with him nearly crossed more than once.

Mahrez 2.0?

For Olise, he should be studying Man City’s wide player Riyad Mahrez to get tips on his game.

There are obvious similarities between the duo in terms of their style. Both have superb close control, agility and a superb threat cutting in from the right. Mahrez has been delivering at the elite level for several seasons now, though.

Mahrez made his name as a superstar at his former club Leicester City, which eventually earned him a £60million move.

It goes to show there is still plenty of room in the Premier League for flair players like him and Olise, so the latter is at a great stage in is career where he should be looking to express himself whenever he’s on the pitch.

His stock will continue to rise if he performs more regularly like he did at the weekend and showing a directness towards goal is crucial.
