Thomas Tuchel has been announced as the Premier League Manager of the Month winner for October – and that’s lead to some Chelsea fans fearing for the team’s upcoming fixtures.
The Premier League revealed today that Chelsea’s 48-year-old boss has won the individual prize for October.
Tuchel guided his side to four wins out of four in the league during last month, which has helped them climb to the top of the division table.
The Blues entered the current international break off the back of a 1-1 draw with Burnley. However, the club’s stellar form during October means they still lead the way three points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.
Chelsea fans worried about Manager of the Month curse
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media say Tuchel’s prize could be a bad thing for them.
The Blues return to league action away to Leicester City a week on Saturday at the King Power Stadium. It’s an important fixture against a team that beat them in last campaign’s FA Cup final.
There are plenty now nervous the manager ‘curse’ could strike.
In fairness, Chelsea were battered 5-2 at home to West Brom immediately after Tuchel last won the Premier League Manager of the Month back in March.
Also, Nuno Espirito Santo has now been sacked by Tottenham despite clinching the manager award back in August during the opening month of the season.
Blues supporters shouldn’t be too concerned
It’s not always the case that managers watch their teams crumble after winning Manager of the Month.
For instance, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has seen his team go from strength to strength since winning the September prize. In addition, Pep Guardiola won the award a couple of times en route to winning the Premier League title last season.
It’s a reminder that Chelsea can’t afford to get complacent, though. Tuchel hasn’t taken his foot off the gas since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, which is why he’s adored by the fanbase. Some Chelsea fans love the conversation he’s had with the club’s defender Ben Chilwell.
