‘Elite mentality’: Some Chelsea fans love what their player has posted on social media after last night’s game
Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek apologised on social media last night after an error he made in the team’s win away at Watford – and some Blues fans have reacted positively.
Loftus-Cheek, 25, was part of the Blues side that recorded a narrow 2-1 victory against Watford on Wednesday evening.
Mason Mount and Hakim Ziyech were both on the scoresheet for the visitors to ensure they stay at the top of the Premier League table.
Thomas Tuchel’s men were miles from their vintage best, but another three points ensures they are top of the division’s breakaway pack ahead of Manchester City and Liverpool.
Loftus-Cheek, who lost possession in the centre of the park in the build-up for Watford’s equalising goal, acknowledged his mistake on Instagram after the game.
In fairness, the central midfielder endured a tough opening 45 minutes like so many of his teammates. However, the Englishman recovered well in the second half to look like one of the brighter sparks.
“An unbelievably tough game. It’s a good sign that we can win while not being at our best. The team stuck together. I hold my hands up for my mistake but I will never, ever shy away,” Loftus-Cheek wrote.
Chelsea fans discuss Loftus-Cheek
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media have been encouraging their player after his Instagram message.
Loftus-Cheek’s performance last night was a tale of two halves.
He struggled to make an impact in the opening 45 minutes alongside midfield partner Saul Niguez, who was once again substituted off at half time. Loftus-Cheek looked much more like himself in the second half, though, powering forward on some eye-catching runs and looking assured on the ball.
Here are some Blues fans reacting to Loftus-Cheek’s post:
Tuchel gamble pays off for Chelsea
With N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic both absent against Watford through injuries, it was a huge risk to leave Jorginho on the bench in midweek.
The Blues definitely missed Jorginho’s presence in the centre of the park. Thankfully, they managed to get the three points without him.
The Italian midfielder should now be fresh going into this weekend’s London derby with West Ham.
