A handful of Chelsea supporters were relieved to learn a potential exchange of Christian Pulisic for Leroy Sane was seemingly not going ahead.

Fabrizio Romano Tweeted yesterday that the Blues and Bayern Munich had not discussed any such trade-off for their young forwards.

A report from the Express earlier this month claimed Thomas Tuchel is a fan of Sane and would like him at Stamford Bridge.

The Express then presented three players from Tuchel’s squad that could be used as a bargaining chip to sign the Bayern attacker.

Pulisic was mentioned, along with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Hakim Ziyech.

Romano quickly came to douse these suggestions, especially the one involving the American international.

Chelsea fans generally greeted this update positively, content in keeping Pulisic for the time being.

Here’s how they reacted on Twitter:

Christian concerns

How long the patience of Chelsea followers lasts with Pulisic is another story.

He was forced to isolate due to covid protocols and then sustained an ankle injury.

His Stamford Bridge career has been blighted by similar absences.

Despite arriving at Chelsea well over two years ago, Pulisic is not even close to reaching 100 games for the Champions League holders.

Sane the solution?

In fairness, Sane has not had it all his own way since he joined Bayern last summer for £44.7m (BBC).

After missing virtually the entirety of the 2019/20 campaign through a cruciate ligament rupture, the German had to tread lightly in his homeland.

He contributed 10 goals and 12 assists in a solid debut campaign, and that form has continued into this season.

Sane already has claimed three goals and six assists.

If he keeps that sort of form up, maybe Chelsea fans might be left to reconsider their views on the potential Pulisic swap…
