‘Has to start’: Some Chelsea fans want Thomas Tuchel to play £50m man against Zenit
Chelsea face Russian opposition Zenit tonight in the Champions League – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have made it clear they are desperate for Ben Chilwell to play.
The Blues kickstart the defence of their Champions League crown on Tuesday night with a home match against Zenit at Stamford Bridge.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will play Zenit, Juventus and Malmo in their group.
It’s been an unbeaten domestic start to the 2021/22 season for Chelsea, but now they bid to replicate their European heroics from last year.
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media think that Chilwell needs to finally play this season.
The England international started in last season’s Champions League final win over Manchester City, but has remarkably been stranded to the bench in recent times.
He’s not played a single minute in any of the opening four Premier League games, with in-form defensive teammate Marcos Alonso getting the nod above him.
Chilwell, 24, is a quality defender who proved his worth during his debut season at the Bridge last year. However, the £50million left-back is being made to stay patient by German boss Tuchel currently.
A midweek fixture against Zenit gives the manager the opportunity to rotate given the quality within the squad, so it will be telling to see if Chilwell finally gets his first match of the season.
The rapid wing-back desperately needs some minutes in his legs to try get his season up and running.
Here are some Chelsea fans demanding Chilwell plays tonight:
