Thomas Tuchel has delivered the injury update on Friday that Antonio Rudiger will be unavailable for Chelsea’s Premier League match tomorrow – and some Blues fans on Twitter are gutted with the announcement.

The Blues are back in league action on Saturday evening when they make the short trip across London to face Brentford.

Tuchel has confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Rudiger will miss the Brentford fixture. The £100,000-a-week defender has come back from international duty with Germany with a problem.

In addition, Thiago Silva and Christian Pulisic are unavailable. Finally, Hakim Ziyech is a serious doubt due to missing the last two training sessions with a headache.

How will Blues look without Rudiger?

Rudiger is usually an ever-present in Chelsea’s back-three, so it’ll be intriguing to see how the defence shapes up without him. There is not yet a timeframe on his return.

With Brazilian Silva also missing out, it means Tuchel’s options are limited.

Andreas Christensen is perhaps the most likely candidate to fill Rudiger’s left-sided centre-back role, something he should do with great ease due to his quality. That would leave Trevoh Chalobah and Cesar Azpilicueta to complete the defensive trio.

Reece James is another option, though, to play at the back. Alternatively, Malang Sarr is a left-field option.

Chelsea fans gutted by Rudiger injury

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media are fearful of the hole Rudiger will leave in the team.

The 28-year-old is so consistent at the back and has been a colossus under Tuchel. Ally McCoist recently claimed he would be a big loss if he left Stamford Bridge, amid speculation about his future.

It’s a big test to see how the Blues shape up defensively against Brentford without such a key aggressive figure.
