'Needs to start': Some Chelsea fans urge Tuchel to recall £100k-a-week player tonight vs Brighton
Chelsea host Brighton tonight in a Premier League match at Stamford Bridge – and some Blues fans on Twitter claim in the build-up that they want Hakim Ziyech recalled to the starting line-up.
The Blues go into Wednesday’s league match off the back of a 3-1 win against Aston Villa, so they’ll be hoping they can get a title bid back on track. However, leaders Manchester City have a six-point cushion above them and look irresistible right now.
Third-placed Chelsea face off in midweek against a Brighton side in 11th who’ve proven to be a tough opponent in recent meetings. There has been two draws in the previous three encounters between the teams.
Chelsea fans crying out for Ziyech
A selection of Blues supporters on social media say that Ziyech should return to the starting XI against Brighton.
Ziyech, 28, has been pictured as part of the training group ahead of tonight’s contest and was an unused substitute in the Boxing Day victory against Villa.
The £100,000-a-week attacker should be a fresh option to come into the side, but has been in and out of the line-up under Tuchel.
He’s got three goals and four assists in 18 games across all competitions this season. However, the left-footed wide player is still not operating at the elite levels that was once normal for him at ex-club Ajax.
There is plenty of competition in the forward positions for starting roles, but the hectic fixture schedule should tempt Tuchel to rotate his options. Incidentally, they host rivals Liverpool on 2 January.
Here are some Chelsea fans requesting Ziyech’s inclusion vs Brighton:
