Chelsea are preparing ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash at home to Burnley – and some Blues fans on Twitter have urged their manager Thomas Tuchel not to start Christian Pulisic.
Chelsea know they’ll remain top of the league table over the international break with three more points at Stamford Bridge.
Pulisic, 23, has been a long-term injury absentee in the past couple of months. Therefore, his comeback appearance in midweek was a massive lift for him and the squad.
The American winger came off the bench for a late cameo against Malmo, which is why it must be tempting for Tuchel to throw him into starting XI against Burnley. However, many feel it would be too big a risk so soon after returning from injury.
Cautious Chelsea fans want Pulisic on bench
A selecting of Chelsea supporters on social media say Pulisic should only be used as a substitute this weekend.
He’s had several injuries during his couple of seasons in England, so perhaps a delicate approach is needed.
His game is largely around explosive pace and direct dribbling, which is why he’s always going to be vulnerable to injury setbacks.
Here are some Chelsea fans discussing Pulisic’s potential involvement against Burnley:
What’s the club’s best front three?
Chelsea have plenty of quality attackers in their squad, but what’s the best combination?
Pulisic, Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Kai Havertz are the forward vying for just three starting positions.
If all become fit at the same time, Tuchel has his work cut out.
He’s going to rotate regularly due to the amount of fixtures, but he must think about who would start if there was a cup final tomorrow.
First of all, Romelu Lukaku is surely the starting centre-forward after his big summer signing. Unfortunately, he’s on the sidelines with injuries right now, but he did give a positive update on Friday morning.
Up next, Mason Mount is a go-to figure under Tuchel that would definitely start a cup final.
That leaves one spot for so many attackers. Callum Hudson-Odoi is an outside bet given his form, but speedster Werner is our guess given the mayhem he can cause to opposition defences.
