Newcastle United are being linked with Chelsea attacker Timo Werner as a possible target – and some Toon supporters on social media are not too impressed with the transfer speculation.
Sport Bild’s Christian Falk reports that Werner is the latest name added to Newcastle’s long list of targets since a successful takeover at St James’ Park.
Werner, 25, is someone who certainly divides opinion.
The German forward has produced some horror moments in front of goal since his move to Stamford Bridge in 2020. However, the speedster has provided some spectacular bits of skill, too.
He’s scored 14 goals and made 16 assists in 60 Blues appearances, helping them to win the Champions League trophy during his debut season last year.
Werner also netted his first league goal of the new campaign before the international break against Southampton.
Newcastle fans don’t like Werner rumour
A selection of Newcastle supporters on Twitter can’t get onboard with the notion of targeting Werner. One even said they would much prefer to sign his Chelsea and Germany teammate Kai Havertz.
The transfer rumours are flying in around Newcastle after the recent takeover, so fans shouldn’t read too much into it at this stage.
If reports are true, it could be a busy time during the next few window on Tyneside.
Here are some Newcastle fans discussing Werner:
Werner should play on Saturday
Werner should be retained in the starting line-up this weekend for the Premier League trip to Brentford.
He’s not the most ruthless, but there is no doubt he causes chaos to opposition defences with his pace and movement.
Blues manager Thomas Tuchel should give him another start.
