Thiago Silva has not been included in the starting XI for today’s fixture against Manchester City – and some Chelsea fans on Twitter are surprised by the tactical decision from their manager Thomas Tuchel.
Silva, 37, is named on the Blues bench for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off against Man City. Tuchel has still named a strong line-up, though, for the Premier League showdown at Stamford Bridge.
Silva delivered a monstrous performance last weekend in the 3-0 league victory against Tottenham. He scored one and was a defensive rock, but it’s not been enough for him to start today.
The Brazilian centre-back was rested in midweek against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup victory, so he may be a little disappointed to sit this one out.
It’s worth noting that Chelsea do travel to Juventus next Wednesday in the Champions League group stages, something that perhaps Tuchel has his eye on.
Chelsea fans surprised by Thiago Silva omission
A selection of Blues supporters on social media are stunned Silva’s been left out against Man City.
Of course, the centre-half was in most people’s predicted XIs based off his recent form and his experience in big matches.
However, it’s still a formidable back-three with Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger starting in defence.
Tuchel’s barely put a foot wrong since joining as manager in January, which is why fans will have to trust him on this one.
Chelsea have found any combination of centre-halves can intertwine well.
