Trevoh Chalobah once again had Chelsea supporters on social media singing his praises as he helped dump Aston Villa out of the EFL Cup.
Chalobah started in a reshuffled back line for the Blues last night, alongside the untried and untested Malang Sarr.
It was pretty clear which of the central defenders was making their competitive debut.
While Sarr looked a little shaky under the Stamford Bridge lights, Chalobah confidently took the reins.
He was assigned the senior leadership role, despite being the same tender age as his defensive partner.
Having learned from the likes of Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta, leadership probably comes naturally to the Cobham prodigy.
Chalobah did lose a flight for the ball before Villa’s equaliser but, other than that, his performance was impressive.
Chelsea fans certainly appreciated one of their own proving their worth, witnessing another string to his gifted bow.
Here’s how they reacted on Twitter:
Played so well. Such a talented defender 😍— #2 🇮🇹 (@Trickytuchell) September 23, 2021

Keep Improving 👏👏👏
Trevoh on track
It says a lot about how much Thomas Tuchel now trusts Chalobah that he decided to deploy him and Sarr together.
Changes were always going to be made for this cup tie, a chance for fringe players to impress the manager.
But asking two young, relatively inexperienced talents to handle a Premier League opponent was a big ask.
Yet, Chalobah has already proved Tuchel can call on his services without the worry of youthful naivety creeping into the picture.
Of course, there’s still room for improvement; take the Villa goal as prime example.
That development will come in time, however, especially if he remains at Chelsea for the foreseeable future.
