'Should have started', 'Weird': Some Chelsea fans react as 23-year-old is named on bench v Zenit

Christian Pulisic has been named on the Chelsea bench for this evening’s match against Zenit – and some Blues fans on Twitter are extremely disappointed to see him as a substitute.

Pulisic, 23, is on the bench for the second game in succession after a cameo role at the weekend.

Thomas Tuchel has decided to make a staggering eight changes from the 3-2 Premier League defeat to West Ham. Mason Mount, Reece James and Andreas Christensen are the only survivors in the XI.

Chelsea have travelled to Russia to take on Zenit in the final group stage match of this season’s Champions League. The reigning champions are already in the hat for the knockout stages, but are still bidding to finish top of the group ahead of Juventus.

Chelsea fans gutted for Pulisic

A selection of Blues supporters on social media believe Pulisic should’ve got an opportunity to play tonight. Instead, Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi are all promoted to the forward positions.

Pulisic has been in and out of the starting XI this season, so it’s been extremely difficult for him to build momentum.

The £58million speedster is a skilful winger on his day that glides past opponents with his quick dribbling. Also, he’s scored two goals in just six Premier League appearances this season.

Unfortunately, Pulisic has repeatedly struggled with injuries during his time so far at Stamford Bridge and is reaching a pivotal point where he needs to stay fit to try nail a spot in the line-up. He may be nervously watching on from the stands to see how some of his rivals perform before potentially featuring himself.

Here are some Blues fans discussing Pulisic:
