Some Chelsea fans amazed by their ‘insane’ 29-year-old in Aston Villa win
Chelsea continued their unbeaten start to the new season with a win against Aston Villa on Saturday evening – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter hailed their goalkeeper Edouard Mendy for his display.
The Blues secured a 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge to mean they now have 10 points from their opening four Premier League games.
Romelu Lukaku, who was back in action in front of a home Chelsea crowd, scored the opener in emphatic fashion.
First of all, the Belgian centre-forward made a perfectly timed run beyond the Villa defence to get on the end of Mateo Kovacic’s through ball. He followed that up with a chop inside the box to evade a defender before a calm finish on his weaker right foot.
Kovacic went from assister to scorer by netting himself early in the second half. The Croatian midfielder capitalised on a mistake from Tyrone Mings to lift the ball into the net after a mistimed back-pass.
RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
Finally, Lukaku grabbed his second in stoppage time with a superb left-footed effort that he rifled into the net without very little backlift.
Despite the fact Chelsea kept a clean sheet in the 3-0 result, they had to withstand a lot defensive pressure. In particular, Villa were asking serious questions of the Blues backline in the first half.
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media believe their shot-stopper Mendy deserves a lot of plaudits for his individual contribution to the three points.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper made numerous interventions in net, including a memorable double save in the opening 45 minutes.
His impact since he joined from Rennes has been immense.
