Chelsea recorded a narrow win over Zenit on Tuesday night – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter were extremely impressed by the performance of their star Andreas Christensen.

The Blues kickstarted the defence of their Champions League crown with a 1-0 home victory against Russian opponents at Stamford Bridge.

It was a European fixture where Thomas Tuchel’s side found themselves in a really competitive game. Zenit were resilient and aggressive with their defending, plus they found a couple of promising moments when they went forward.

However, Chelsea eventually found a winning goal through usual suspect Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian centre-forward has been a revelation since his return this summer, so it was no surprise when his header in the 69th minute hit the back of the net. He timed his jump perfectly to get on the end of Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross into the penalty box.

It means the defending champions have started the group stages with three points. Meanwhile, Juventus won 3-0 away at Malmo in the group’s other match.

Andreas Christensen in total control

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media believe that Christensen was a standout for them.

The 25-year-old defender was back into the side in the heart of the back-three, which is a position he plays with such calmness.

He made a couple of key interventions whenever called upon tonight, including a superb sliding tackle.

The Denmark international is always alert to the danger and his game has gone up so many levels since Tuchel took charge at Stamford Bridge.

Here are some Chelsea fans hailing Christensen’s latest contribution:
