Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has named his starting XI for tonight’s match against Aston Villa – and some Blues fans on Twitter are over the moon with the decision to start Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Chelsea face Premier League rivals Villa on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge. They recently beat them 3-0 in a league fixture, but tonight they meet in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
The Blues have 10 changes against Villa from the team that beat Tottenham on the weekend, but it’s still a formidable line-up that’s been put out. Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is the only survivor in the XI.
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media are particularly excited that Loftus-Cheek is in the team.
The 25-year-old appears to be playing as part of the attacking front trio based off the official announcement on Twitter.
He came off the bench briefly in a Champions League match earlier this month, but he’s now being rewarded with his first start of the campaign.
Here are some Blues fans discussing Loftus-Cheek:
Loftus-Cheek can’t afford to waste opportunity
For Loftus-Cheek, along with plenty of other Chelsea players against Villa, tonight is massive.
It’s a big chance for some individuals in the Blues squad to show why they deserve more minutes in the league, as well as the Champions League.
We are surely reaching last chance saloon territory when it comes to Loftus-Cheek’s Chelsea career, so fingers crossed tonight can be a turning point where he gets back on track with a strong display.
