Chelsea confirm Romelu Lukaku injury news ahead of Aston Villa game

Chelsea have confirmed a positive injury update about Romelu Lukaku ahead of this weekend’s game against Aston Villa.

The Blues host Villa on Saturday in the Premier League and fans have been greeted to some positive news.

Chelsea claimed on their official website that Lukaku showed “no signs of discomfort” during training on Thursday, despite the fact he’s admitted he’s been struggling with a minor thigh injury.

It looks like the 28-year-old is raring to go, so it would be a surprise if he’s not in the starting XI for the first game at Stamford Bridge since he re-signed.

The centre-forward scored three goals in two games during the international break for Belgium and will now be looking to spark similar form for his club.

His physical attributes are well known because he can bully defenders, but he’s got rapid pace as well to torment opponents. Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson previously described him as “quick and powerful”.

Romelu Lukaku injury news is massive

Of course, Chelsea want Lukaku ready to play against Villa because he gives them the kind of edge in attack they’ve been searching for.

However, it’s just as important that the striker can build some momentum straightaway after returning to West London. A slow start that’s impacted by injuries would be a nightmare, so it’s positive his thigh problem doesn’t sound too serious.

If the Blues are to launch a serious Premier League title bid, they need Lukaku scoring 20-plus goals.

His career record against upcoming opponents Villa is six goals in eight appearances.
