Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has claimed that Christian Pulisic is fit ahead of this Sunday’s game, but wasn’t willing to say he’s ready to start.
The Blues are currently preparing for their biggest game of the season so far, as they host Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League.
Chelsea go into the contest off the back of six consecutive wins across all competitions and they sit third in the league table as it stands two points adrift of the top two.
Meanwhile, upcoming opponents Spurs are top of league above Liverpool on goal difference and likewise are in excellent form, winning their last five matches in succession across all competitions.
It might be a bit of gamesmanship from Lampard, but it sounds like Pulisic might be an option from the bench this weekend.
The 22-year-old hasn’t played since the end of October due to injury and it would be a huge game to throw him back into against Spurs.
“He’s fit. Ready to start is a question mark, it is hard to gauge match fitness,” Lampard said in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by the club’s official Youtube account.
Pulisic has had his campaign disrupted by injuries so far and it’s been a frustration throughout his Stamford Bridge career so far, albeit supporters saw him at his blistering best at the back end of last season.
The American winger is such a vital part of the Chelsea squad with his pace, dribbling and directness, but the team has flourished without him and he’s got a job on his hands to break back into the XI.
It will be a surprise if Lampard’s uses him from the start against Spurs and it looks like Timo Werner will retain his spot as the left-winger.
