'Not with the team': Tuchel says 25-year-old Chelsea player won't play on Sunday, but could train next week
Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen remains out for this weekend’s match against Tottenham, it’s been confirmed by Thomas Tuchel.
Christensen, 25, has been unavailable for the last couple of Premier League games after testing positive for Covid.
Also, the centre-back’s missed some games recently due to a back problem.
It’s been a stop-start time in the last few weeks for the Denmark international, and he won’t be playing in Sunday’s home league fixture against Spurs at Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel’s confirmed in today’s press conference the defender may be back training with the group next week, though. In addition, he’s provided an injury update on Blues player Trevoh Chalobah.
“He’s (Christensen) not with the team yet. We hope he is back in training next week,” Tuchel said.
He added: “Trevoh Chalobah is back in team training but way too early to play the game on Sunday.”
Chelsea miss Christensen
For certain, Christensen’s absence has been felt lately at the Bridge.
He’s only played in two of the previous six games across all competitions because of his absences for various reasons.
The Danish centre-half makes it a lot easier for Chelsea boss Tuchel to use his preferred system of a back three, as he’s one of the talented crop of defenders in the squad.
He often goes along as an unsung hero in the Blues defence, but he’s had a decent season so far in his 21 appearances across all competitions.
Unfortunately, reports this week explain Barcelona are in advanced talks about a deal to sign him at the end of the season when his contract at the Bridge expires.
