Chelsea have reportedly been given the boost that both Mason Mount and Reece James will be returning from their respective injuries in time for this weekend’s game.
The Blues host Southampton on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League, which is a chance to bounce back from two consecutive losses.
Chelsea academy graduates Mount and James have been missing lately with injury problems. However, the duo will reportedly be in the squad tomorrow.
According to The Sun, the England internationals are “expected” to play a role this weekend for their club.
They are both due to link up with the national team next week after being named in the squad by Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate.
Thomas Tuchel’s press conference on Friday afternoon (1:30pm) should provide more concrete detail.
Mason Mount injuries bad news for Chelsea
Of course, Chelsea’s squad is stacked with so much talent. But, Mount’s absence in the last two matches has been visibly noticeable.
The 22-year-old surely would have played in defeats to Manchester City and Juventus had he been available. Rio Ferdinand claimed that he was really missed against Man City.
The attacking midfielder brings a touch of guile in possession. Also, the way he works so hard off the ball is so important for this Chelsea XI.
The Blues can’t afford for him to pick up too many injuries during the course of this season.
Reece James comeback important, too
If Chelsea are to breakdown what may be a stubborn Southampton backline on Saturday, they are going to need real creativity out wide.
21-year-old right wing-back James will bring an extra attacking edge if he’s available to slot straight back into the starting line-up.
The Sun’s report is unclear on whether or not Chelsea duo Mount and James will start this weekend, but some fans will be hoping both are named in the XI.
Please be aware this article was written before Tuchel’s press conference today.
Tuchel has since suggested that James may not be fit enough to feature against the Saints.
Either way, we will find out for definite at 2pm tomorrow, when the team news comes out.
