Report: Chelsea suffer yet another injury blow, £150k-a-week man unavailable tonight along with Chilwell and Ziyech

Chelsea are reportedly set to be without club captain Cesar Azpilicueta tonight when they face Luton Town in the FA Cup fifth round.

The Blues turn their attention to the FA Cup on Wednesday evening, after cruelly losing on penalties to Liverpool in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has been fairly reticent on the detail about injury news ahead of Luton.

The German boss confirmed in yesterday’s press conference there is a “long list” of injuries concerns following the gruelling defeat to Liverpool. Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech were named as two players that will definitely miss tonight’s trip to Kenilworth Road, but the rest is still a mystery.

According to The Sun, Azpilicueta will be joining teammates Chilwell and Ziyech on the sidelines against Luton because he’s not available.

The £150,000-a-week defender came off injured during the second half of the cup final against Liverpool.

He will reportedly miss the midweek clash now, too.

Big Chelsea blow

Hopefully, Azpilicueta’s injury concern isn’t too serious.

Blues supporters will have to wait nervously to hear more concrete information regarding his problem.

The 32-year-old is an absolute vital figure in this squad, largely down to the fact he can cover any position across the defence to a top standard.

It could be a peak into next season to what life may be like without the Spaniard.

His current deal at Stamford Bridge expires this summer, so he’ll be leaving after 10 brilliant years unless there can be a breakthrough in contract negotiations.

Barcelona have reportedly been trying to agree a deal for Azpilicueta since December, but Chelsea are hoping he decides to stay where he is.
