Report: Liverpool blow as their £29m player won't be available to face Chelsea on Sunday

Liverpool have reportedly been dealt the blow that Roberto Firmino will be unavailable to play against Chelsea on Sunday.

This weekend’s Carabao Cup final takes place at Wembley Stadium between Premier League giants Liverpool and Chelsea.

For Liverpool, they go into the cup final off the back of a thumping 6-0 league win against Leeds United last night. However, it’s not all good news within the camp due to injury concerns.

According to the Daily Mail, Reds attacker Firmino will not be involved in Sunday’s final showdown.

The report explains the £29million centre-forward won’t be recovered in time from an injury that’s seen him miss his side’s last two matches in the league.

Some positive news for the Merseyside club is that fellow attacker Diogo Jota is winning his own race against time to be fit against Chelsea, though. He will reportedly return to the bench for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Chelsea will need to be at their best

Undoubtedly, Chelsea need to play close to their maximum tomorrow to leave Wembley with yet more silverware.

Thomas Tuchel’s Blues definitely have the quality within the group, especially in defensive positions, but are up against a top-class opponent.

Liverpool may reportedly be without influential 30-year-old striker Firmino, but they’ve got more than enough firepower in attack to cope without him.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and January signing Luis Diaz are a scintillating Reds attack who pose such a threat.

It’s a remarkable statistic that Klopp’s team have suffered just two defeats in 40 games across all competitions this season, which came in the league against Leicester City and West Ham.

Chelsea have looked like cup specialists with Tuchel at the helm, though.
