‘Baller’: Some Chelsea fans react to their 27-year-old’s international display
Mateo Kovacic was in action yesterday for Croatia – and some Chelsea fans on Twitter hailed their midfielder’s performance at Euro 2020.
Croatia beat Scotland 3-1 on Tuesday to qualify for the knockout stages of the Euros. Meanwhile, opponents Scotland bowed out of the competition.
Blues star Kovacic lined up in the starting XI for his country, where he impressed alongside the duo of Luka Modric and Marcelo Brozovic.
It was Croatia’s midfield that ultimately won them the game, so the Chelsea ace played a massive part.
Kovacic, who earns £100,000-a-week, managed a rare assist by setting up an outrageous finish from Madrid.
Additionally, the 27-year-old looked a threat himself with some trademark dribbles forward when he decided to break the lines.
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media believe that Kovacic was a massive plus point last night on the international stage.
It wasn’t a flawless display, but he made enough of an impact.
He’s a vital player in the Croatia set-up that should be eyeing up 100 caps before the time he retires.
However, the central midfielder will start next season at Stamford Bridge knowing there is huge competition to play regularly in the Chelsea midfield.
Teammates Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are midfielders that look in the form of their life for their respective countries.
