Christian Pulisic sends Chelsea boss Tuchel clear message about his preferred position

Christian Pulisic might have sent a message to Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel about his preferred position through his comments after USMNT’s 2-1 win over Northern Ireland.

The 22-year-old captained the US team in Belfast on Sunday and managed to add a goal to his tally from the penalty spot in the second half.

Interestingly, US head coach Gregg Berhalter, who was full of praise of Pulisic after the game, decided to deploy a 3-4-3 formation in that game.

A similar structure to Chelsea manager Tuchel’s preferred formation since he arrived.

However, while Tuchel has recently deployed Pulisic as an attacking right wing-back, Berhalter opted to use the winger in a more familiar left winger/inside forward role.

Based on what Pulisic said after the game, he clearly prefers the latter option.

“I think it gives the team a lot of stability, at the back especially,” Pulisic said about the US national team’s new 3-4-3 structure in his post-match press conference.

“It allows you to swing the ball around [by] having that extra man at the back, having that five.

“[The structure also] allows me to come inside a bit more and for me to find that space in the pocket.”

With USMNT’s March camp now over, Pulisic will soon head back to London — and he is looking forward to it.

“It always feels good of course to get on the scoresheet. It’s definitely going to build some confidence,” he added.

“And for me personally, going back to club level, I’m feeling confident.

“I feel the best I’ve felt in my game, so I’m excited for what’s to come.”
