'Pummelled': National media say Chelsea player was lucky not to get injured last night, kept getting hacked

Chelsea should be nicely represented at the latest edition of the World Cup.

A majority of Thomas Tuchel’s men, including some of those not currently part of the senior squad, could be heading to Qatar in the winter.

Chelsea are taking over the globe

Reece James, Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell will be hoping to be picked by Gareth Southgate.

Antonio Rudiger, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner all have their eyes on a place in Germany’s camp, whilst Romelu Lukaku, N’Golo Kante, Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta and Mateo Kovacic should be on their respective planes.

In the latest round of qualifying fixtures, Edouard Mendy earned a spot at the tournament with Senegal after defeating Egypt on penalties.

Permitted all of these players are picked by their national team managers, they will be joined by Christian Pulisic and the United States.

The USMNT booked their place at the World Cup last night, despite being defeated by Costa Rica.

How did Pulisic get on?

Gregg Berhalter’s boys only needed to avoid losing by six goals to ensure their safe passage to the finals.

Fortunately, Costa Rica only won 2-0, meaning the Stars and Stripes could celebrate their achievement.

They had pretty much sealed qualification by humbling Panama in the previous fixture, in which Pulisic was the star.

He netted a hattrick in the USA’s 5-1 victory, but failed to replicate such a performance last night.

The 23-year-old suffered a bout of South American aggression, constantly being floored by the Costa Ricans.

“Decent set-piece service but was pummelled by Los Ticos and it’s a surprise he wasn’t lifted sooner for safety’s sake,” wrote NBC about Pulisic in their player ratings for the contest.

“Spent more time on the ground than inside Costa Rica’s box, expected more threat on the attack,” added 90min, with both outlets awarding the Chelsea attacker a 6/10 score.

Whenever the notion of injuries is brought up around Pulisic, fans start to shudder because of his poor track record on the treatment table.

However, he probably didn’t mind taking a few hits if it meant securing a place at the World Cup.
